“I never drink and you’re going to make me drink alone?” A grin tugged at Terry’s lips at Brian’s sullen comment. “You need the fortification while I’ve had more than my fair share for one lifetime.” Brian’s speech was already beginning to slow down. “It’s not right to leave a man hanging.” “I have to drive you home and I don’t drink and drive.” Brian slipped down an inch in his chair. Crossing his arms over his chest, he stared at Terry through his lashes. “I could stay here.” Although Terry doubted Brian’s proposition was intended the way he would’ve liked, it still caused his cock to lengthen. “It wouldn’t be the first time I slept in a chair.” That statement might have taken the bite out his arousal if Brian’s tone hadn’t gone sultry. Not to mention, his eyes darkened. Terry shifted in his seat to hide his erection. He shook his head. “Nope. I haven’t done anything to be embarrassed about...yet.” Terry marveled over the way Brian’s eyes gave away his every emotion. They seemed to flash from light to dark brown and back again as he visibly struggled against his desire. Unable to keep from doing so, Terry gave him an extra shove. Using his voice against him, he allowed a hint of his growing lust to seep into his tone. “Do you intend to?” With his gaze still locked on Terry’s mouth, Brian nodded. “Do it,” Terry taunted. The words barely passed his lips before Brian claimed his mouth. For Terry, it was like tossing gasoline on already raging bonfire. The way Brian’s tongue stroked the roof of his mouth before slipping away and reappearing again left Terry with no choice except to chase after it. He smiles at me, and I swear, I’m blown away.
Shit, shit, shit.
I’m in trouble.
Especially since I’m about to blatantly invite the trouble into my life.
“You know what,” I say suddenly, standing up. “I want a chocolate chip muffin. I’ll be right back.”
Ethan nods, not really hearing me, focused on whatever it is he’s gazing at out the window and I head to the counter to order. There is one person in front of me so I have to wait, and because people are predictable, it’s only a moment or two before I feel the man stand behind me. I don’t even have to look to know.
“I’m Benedict,” he murmurs, leaning in close to my ear so his breath brushes me in an intimate manner. His deep voice is sexy just as I imagined it would be from simply looking at him.
I ignore the way it makes me feel and am direct as possible so he knows everything he needs to. “I’m taken.”
“Are you?” He chuckles, still close to me even though he isn’t touching me in any way. “So am I. Now, what’s your name?”
Interesting. Well, he gets points for being honest, and I’ve no idea what his situation is, so I give him an honest answer. “I’m Caroline.”
“Is that your boyfriend sitting with you?”
“No.”
“A friend? A relative? Someone I have to worry about beating me up for speaking with you?”
I can’t help it. I laugh at the question and turn to face him as the person in front of me continues to waffle about what they want to order. Our bodies are inches apart as he straightens, and I have to look up into his face because he’s got a good six inches on my five-foot-five frame. And the first thing I notice is he’s even more attractive up close. His face might have a five o’clock shadow, but it’s blemish free, and his hazel eyes shine bright as he gazes down at me, his multi-colored tie emphasizing the various flicks of color in them.
“He’s my friend,” I say with a smile. “Since we were kids. He’s like a brother, and no, he won’t beat you up.”
Benedict’s eyes are even more vibrant, if that’s even possible, as he lifts a hand to my hair and pushes it behind my ear. It’s forward, has my stomach dropping and my heart careening, but I can’t seem to find the heart to object to this simplest of touches. He seems as fascinated by me as I am by him and I need to see what he wants.
“How old are you, Caroline?”
“I’ll be twenty-one tomorrow. You?”
“Nice.” He drops his hand, stepping back as the cashier behind us announces the total to the person ordering, and smiles at me. “I’m thirty. But it doesn’t matter. I just wanted to make sure you were legal.”
Legal for what?
“May I help you?” The cashier asks from behind me, and I turn around without saying anything in response to his comment, stepping up to the counter.
“Yes, I’d like a chocolate chip muffin please.” I wait until she holds her hand out for the money, then give it to her and step aside with a glance back at Benedict. “Your turn.”
“Oh,” he replies with a naughty grin, removing himself from the line to stand next to me. “I don’t want anything to eat. At least, not from this cafe.”
I ignore the butterflies in my stomach at his suggestive words and roll my eyes at him instead. “I’m sure your girlfriend would love to know you’re hitting on a girl that isn’t her in this cafe.”
He leans in at the same moment I feel his hand slide into my pocket, tugging me until my side is against his, and whispers in my ear, “We have an open relationship.” He says that as if he knows I’ll know what it means as my eyes collide with his. Which I do, but he can’t know that having just met me. Then, he steps back while removing his hand from my pocket and sliding it into his own. “My card is in your pocket, Caroline. Call me.”
I don’t get a chance to reply as he turns around and walks away, out the door in the blink of an eye.

We spend the entire afternoon down by the water soaking up the sun and enjoying doing absolutely nothing after being trapped in a car for seven very long hours. Only after our stomachs begin to rumble do we pull ourselves away. It’s almost six-thirty at night, so we decide to head up to the house, shower, and go out somewhere for dinner.

Four girls getting ready is not a speedy process. After almost an hour and a half, we’re finally dressed and ready to explore Myrtle Beach.

Just as we’re making our way down the tall deck stairs that lead down to the driveway, we spot a group of guys climbing out of a speedboat that is now parked at a dock in front of the house next door.

“Damn. Why am I not single?” I hear Nikki mumble as we all gawk at the three guys, who are wearing nothing but board shorts and flip-flops. They all have sunglasses on and beers inside koozies in their hands as they make their way up the beach towards the two-story house to the right of ours.

I glance at their driveway and notice a yellow Suzuki crotch rocket and two other vehicles, a jacked up red Silverado, and a black Mustang convertible.

“Well, we’re single and definitely ready to mingle, right, Ashlynn?” Becca hints, elbowing me and giving me a cheeky grin. I just shake my head and let out a soft chuckle.

They are definitely easy on the eyes. All three of them are very nicely toned and tan. If I had to guess, I’d say they’re all around our age. The idea of partying with them makes this summer getaway look even better.

“They’re all hot. Do you think they had some type of interview process, ‘Only good-looking dudes allowed in this bromance’? I definitely wouldn’t kick any of them out of my bed,” I say, laughing as I press the button on my keys, unlocking the doors of my Explorer.

Just as we get about halfway down the stairs, the group of guys, who are laughing at something tall, tanned, and extremely good-looking just said, spot us four dorks staring at them. I think we all need a bib to catch the drool that’s dribbling down our chins right now.

They all flash us mega-watt smiles that sparkle in the slowly setting sunlight. This time of year, it stays daylight out until almost nine-thirty at night, so we have one more hour until the sky turns dark and the board walk of Myrtle Beach lights up.

We all squeal and scurry down the stairs to my car just as the guys raise their hands and give us a small wave. “Welcome to Myrtle Beach, ladies!” the guy with shorter dark hair shouts across to us. The other two just wave and keep smiling. Just that alone has short circuited our brains.

Waving back at them, we quickly climb into my car, and I waste no time starting it up.

“Holy shit, they are hot!” Tamara says, staring straight ahead at the area the guys were just standing before they disappeared into their house. It’s as if she believes if she keeps staring, they’ll magically reappear. Just as the thought pops into my head—BAM!—out comes all three sun-kissed Greek gods onto the large wraparound deck with platters in their hands as they head over to a grill.

“Hurry up and start moving the damn car, Ashlynn, before they think we’re weirdoes sitting in a car just staring at them,” Nikki snaps at me from the back seat.

I shift the car into reverse to back out of our driveway, but before I can move my foot off of the brake, my eyes lock with the gorgeous man with ocean blue eyes and dirty blonde hair standing at the grill. The color of his eyes pop against his tanned skin, and for a moment, I get lost in them before Tamara slaps me on the arm and brings me out of my trance.

“Ashlynn, start driving before I end up settling for cannibalism. I’m freaking starving!”

Melissa Pearl was born in Auckland, New Zealand, but has spent much of her life abroad, living in countries such as Jordan, Cyprus and Pakistan... not to mention a nine month road trip around North America with her husband. Let me say that the authors warning about Claire is dead on, She is VERY nieve and unfortunately her want to see the best in people only lands her in bad situation after bad situation. However I found myself falling in love with Claire (with that said there were definately times that I wanted to strangle her!!)

Claire is a young girl that has grown up in the fostercare system since she was 3 and unfortunatley upon her 18th birthday she finds herself very alone with no home, no money and only her car that is not in very good shape. Thankfully she has some wonderful coworkers that help her out and because of their help she manages to meet a very powerful much older lawyer that just wont take no for an answer..... Claire finds that little by little she is losing everything that she worked so hard for, especially herself, will she be able to get herself out of the mess she is in and find her way to true love?? 

This book is well worth the read!
Kelly I want to kill you!! You know how I feel about bookendings like that!! Hurry up, I need to know!!!!!
